“We got married on the sand at sunset and had no idea what we were allowed to do about drinks. Formosa knew the rules better than we did, handled the permit questions with our planner, and showed up with everything. Not one thing went wrong.”

“It was August on the coast and brutally hot. They had drinks batched so nobody stood in the sun waiting, and the non-alcoholic options were genuinely good - half our guests drank those. That detail made the whole afternoon comfortable.”
“The bar looked like it belonged there - not like something trucked onto a beach. Our photographer kept shooting it. Setup and breakdown happened around us and we barely noticed either one.”

Ask before anything else, because the answer varies by beach. Tybee, St. Simons, and Jekyll allow it with restrictions. Hilton Head prohibits it on all beaches. Confirm with the municipality directly rather than relying on what a nearby beach allows.
Tybee requires a beach event permit for ceremony setups. St. Simons and Jekyll do not require permits. Savannah squares and parks require a temporary alcohol permit applied for well in advance. Ask what the permit does and does not allow — and note that a public beach cannot be closed to the public.
Beach permits typically make you responsible for removing everything brought in, within a set window. Ask what the time limits are and whether anything can stay overnight — usually nothing can.
Ask how far the ceremony site is from vehicle access. On Tybee, also ask about paid parking and whether a shuttle makes sense for your guest count.
Ask to see the backup space in person, then ask the follow-up most couples skip: does the plan cover the bar area, or only the ceremony and dinner?
Tybee beach reservations run 7am to 9pm only. Other coastal areas have their own limits. This shapes your timeline and your last call.
